Video: Medicare Help From SHIP Programs

Video Transcript

Narrator: If you're not sure where to get started signing up for Medicare, one of the best resources available is your local SHIP office. SHIP stands for State Health Insurance Assistance Program. And while the name of the program may differ depending on where you live, the services they provide are available free nationwide.

SHIP Counselor: You can see that if your income is higher…

Narrator: Medicare information seminars like this one take place regularly throughout the country, and SHIP counselors also provide one-on-one counseling for a wide range of Medicare-related services.

Linda Barnhart: They need to be cognizant of the coordination of their benefits. Are the benefits going to change from the time that they go on Medicare? Are they going to change when they retire? What do they actually have? So they have to understand the coverage they have now, what the changes are going to be and what they're going to need to add or drop to get the best and most complete coverage they can.

Narrator: Many people attend seminars like this first. Then they set up a private counseling session later, once they better understand the information they need to gather to best work with their SHIP counselor.

You can find your local SHIP office on the website shiptalk.org. It's a great way to stay "SHIP shape" with your Medicare needs.
